The Water Shed Designs & Installs Geothermal Systems

The Water Shed offers comprehensive geothermal packages that are customized for your home and property. The process includes well drilling, loop design and installation, and geothermal heat pump installation by our Canadian GeoExchange Coalition accredited technicians.

What exactly is geothermal energy? Simply put, it’s a process that uses the heat (and the cold) stored in the ground to make your home comfortable.

Geothermal energy has been used since ancient Roman times. And today, it’s gaining in popularity and is being used increasingly to heat and cool homes because it’s energy efficient and is a green alternative to conventional methods. It’s considered a renewable resource – and one of the most efficient heating and cooling systems in existence – because the heat emanating from the Earth’s interior is unlimited.

Also called ground-source heat pumps, geothermal heat pumps use the planet’s relatively constant temperature at depths of about 10 ft to 300 ft. These heat pumps circulate fluid through pipes buried in a continuous loop, either horizontally or vertically, underneath a building and/or the landscaped area around it.

Energy Savings and Other Benefits

A geothermal system can reduce your electricity use by 30–66% compared to traditional heating and cooling systems. In addition to being energy efficient, geothermal energy offers these advantages:

Low maintenance
Clean & quiet
No chance of fire or creosote
Automatic thermostatically controlled operation
Small compact size
Ideally suited to Canadian weather conditions

Geothermal Heat Pumps

A geothermal heat pump or ground source heat pump (GSHP) is a central heating and/or cooling system that transfers heat to or from the ground.

It uses the earth as a heat source (in the winter) or a heat sink (in the summer). This design takes advantage of the moderate temperatures in the ground to boost efficiency and reduce the operational costs of heating and cooling systems, and may be combined with solar heating to form a geosolar system with even greater efficiency.

The Water Shed carries the Nordic line of Residential & Commercial Heat Pumps.
